South Texas College primarily serves Hidalgo and Starr Counties students seeking high-quality, post-secondary career pathway education. As a part of its master plan to provide education for in-demand, higher-skill and pay employment, it is expanding its Nursing and Allied Health Professions Campus in McAllen by 173,000 sq. ft. Phase I adds a new 89,890 gsf four-story building that simulates the hospital environment for nursing and allied healthcare professions.
ERO produced an on-target 21st Century facility for about 625 students studying emergency care, medical surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, radiology, ultrasound, respiratory therapy, pharmacy or advanced nursing training. The programs offer fully-loaded simulation labs complete with medical equipment that functions in the same manner as hospital equipment. The school layout incorporates faculty offices and support services.
Large windows throughout the building permit daylight to create a more conducive setting for learning. The building accommodates the new intelligent classroom requirements of the college environment for hands-on-training and convenience of the digital-age students. The design of the student amenities creates a sense of home and comfort with a student success center, a cafeteria, a lounge and gathering spaces indoor and out. The atmosphere facilitates students spending their day at the campus.
“
ERO accepted every challenge set before it, including ensuring the building is a culturally relevant and desirable space for our students. I can also honestly say that students attending South Texas College have an opportunity to transform their lives, not just earn college credit and ERO has been a large part of that through improving the scholastic experience of our students.
