Central Middle School Addition and Performing Arts Center Renovation
ERO took on the project to modernize and expand Weslaco’s Central Middle School. The goal sought and met was for the historic campus to be put on par with the newer schools of the Weslaco Independent School District. A 70,000 square-foot-expansion increased student capacity to 1,000. New spaces were created for STEM educational preparation. A new secure entrance was built along with administrative offices and a library. An on-campus performing arts center was renovated to serve the district and its community.
A focal point of the project was the school’s new entrance. It is secure and flanked by administrative offices and the library. These structural elements blend together to form the core of the renovated campus and its new entrance. On its exterior, a stand of trees that includes two 60-year-old oaks provide the visual anchor for Central’s newly landscaped grounds. Another historical piece on the campus is a 1950s-era performing arts center. The renovated 1,800-seat auditorium is fully equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, audio, TV systems, and second floor dressing rooms.
