Edcouch-Elsa High School
The Edcouch-Elsa school district changed its plans to build a ninth-grade center and transitioned to a loftier goal after being inspired by ERO’s innovate designs. The district’s initial proposal was a freshman-only school. Edcouch-Elsa decided to aim higher in its partnership with ERO. The district decided to build a 600-student, two-story, state-of-the-art college preparatory high school.
The new high school anchors a campus that is developed on a north-south axis. The layout allows for pedestrian walkways through the spine of the campus. The building’s exterior blends various colors of split-face block with the metal of the façade. The facility’s first floor houses administrative offices, a library, and a cafeteria. Science labs are located on the second floor. The building’s design is transformative with its full-spectrum lighting. Edcouch-Elsa students have the emotional and physical comfort they need as they progress in their learning experiences. The school district would invite ERO back in subsequent years to design a 28,000 gross-square-foot Yellowjacket gym for its high school.
